Preparing for a Miracle
SCRIPTURE
2 Kings 4:3[1-7] ESV Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few.”
NUGGET
In this text a widow approaches the prophet Elisha for help to repay her dead husband’s debts. Elisha asks what she has of value. She replies, only a jar of oil. So, he instructs her to gather containers from her neighbors, and says “Don’t ask for just a few.” As the widow begins to pour the one jar of oil into the other jars, it flows miraculously until every last jar is full! Only then does the oil stop flowing. Think about this: What if the woman had only gathered a few jars? She wouldn’t have gotten as much oil. The miracle she received was as big as the miracle she prepared for.
ACTIVATION
Is there something in your life that you need God to move in? Read 2 Kings 4:1-7 and expand your expectations, not in terms of a specific outcome, but in terms of how capable, good and loving God is as our Father.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for being faithful. Show me how to pray, prepare, and believe for the bigger miracle, accepting Your will and sovereignty.
