Our Cravings
SCRIPTURE
Psalm 107:9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
NUGGET
We live in a world that longs for peace, hope and comfort. Maybe you can sense the longing from wherever you are today. The ironic part of this, however, is that we often try to find those things outside of turning to Jesus first. Perhaps it's a Netflix marathon to numb the pain, or a burger binge to spark a tinge of joy (no judgment here!). Whatever your ”vice” is, the honest truth is that anything other than our Savior, will only fill a temporary moment. We were made to need, rely on, hope in and depend on the One who made us. He alone can offer the comfort we so desperately crave!
ACTIVATION
All of this doesn't mean we can't enjoy the good gifts God’s given! But we can’t allow our feelings to dictate the desire for a quick fix. The next time you feel the need to numb the pain, ask the Holy Spirit to bring you gentle reminders that it's time to bring your longings before the feet of Jesus and admit your need. He’s more than ready to help!
PRAYER
Jesus, You alone are what my soul truly craves. Meet me in the middle of the moments I look to something or someone else to satisfy my need for significance. Help me to look to You first, Lord, and find all my hope and peace there. I love You! Amen.
