Peace
SCRIPTURE
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
NUGGET
Peace is something many of us have mistaken for comfort. You know, that warm settled feeling you get when you sink into your favorite spot on the couch? Or the way you can look at a calendar and make plans for vacation. These things are comforts, but not true peace. These comforts can’t sustain a single mother who's worrying about how she will make ends meet. Or the friend who is quarantined and counting down the days until they can eat a meal with others. Peace is stronger than comfort, a cozy couch, or a full social calendar. The peace we long for must be anchored to something secure, sure, and trustworthy...something stronger than our shifting circumstances. Peace is only as strong as the One it is anchored to. Jesus is our true Peace and Anchor.
ACTIVATION
Ask the Lord to reveal any place or person you’ve looked to be your source of peace other than Him. Ask Him to quiet your heart with His peace today.
PRAYER
Lord, I confess that it’s so easy to turn to other things when I’m feeling anxious, nervous or even sad. Reveal to me any areas of comfort that I’ve mistaken for peace, and help me to depend on You for all my needs.
