Planning with Humility
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 27:1 “NIV Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
NUGGET
If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that plans should be held loosely. The funny thing here is, this was true before the pandemic ever hit. However, there’s something about “losing” control that wakes one up in a very different way (not that any of us were ever really in control, but it’s more the illusion of “being in control”). That’s why the Bible gently reminds us that boasting about tomorrow is not our role to play. Not only can we NOT predict what will happen in the next few seconds (let alone the next few days), we also know the ONE who actually does know what will happen! This means we can humbly make our plans all while entrusting them to the One who can be trusted at every twist and turn.
ACTIVATION
Take some time to write down your plans for the year (maybe just one or maybe a few more). Then offer each one to the Lord and commit them to His care. Ask for Him to lead and guide you as you surrender control over to His care.
PRAYER
Lord, I confess that it’s hard to surrender my well made plans and lay down the control I think I have. Remind me today that You see everything and can be trusted with my future at every step. Help me to plan with humility and grace for what lies ahead instead of pride in what I think I know.
