The Secret of Contentment

SCRIPTURE 
Phil 4:12-13 NIV I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

NUGGET
No matter how many years you’ve followed Jesus, the struggle to be content with what you have is one that finds every believer. It can be tempting to think that a different house, career, car, or even set of talents would finally “do the trick” but the truth is, our search for more only feeds our desire for more. Paul wrote Phillipians 4 when he was in prison...it’s pretty sobering to think he had learned the secret to contentment even there...Jesus Christ! No matter if we’re living in “plenty or want”, our souls will find their greatest fulfillment in the God who made them!

ACTIVATION
Take some time today to write down the blessings you DO have. Then thank God for these things and ask Him to meet you in the areas you feel are lacking. Ask Him to settle your heart in His presence and find your greatest satisfaction there before anything else.

PRAYER
Lord, I confess that my eyes so easily search for other things to make me happy. Would You fix my gaze more steadily on You to satisfy my deepest longings and desires? Teach me to be content because with You, I have everything I need.
